Fact or Fiction: Microsoft is secretly disappointed with the overall quality of the launch window titles.

Opinion: No one can say with any certainty how much disappointment Microsoft has in the overall quality of launch titles. My opinion is that they would have to be. After sinking so much money into acquiring Rare, Perfect Dark is causing gamers and video game journalists alike to scratch their heads. Although opinions vary as to whether or not it’s a good game, almost universally I hear the same thing from everyone that has seen it in action: “It’s not Halo.” Expectations were high for this title as well as games like Madden 06, Tiger Woods 06 and Project Gotham 3.

Now with the possibility of Project Gotham 3 being delayed past the launch date, as well as Oblivion, Microsoft can’t be pleased with how things are going. On the positive side though, Microsoft set the bar very high for the 360 launch. Their aim all along was to have the most successful console launch in history. If not for the potential shortage of units available for gamers on launch day, I would have heartily agreed that it would be. There will still be a slew of fun games available on day one, but ultimately only you the gamer will judge whether or not it is a success or failure.
