Rebuttal Opinions

Gavin Manley writes:

The revolution controller does indeed look like a remote, but it actually works in an entirely different way. The thing is being tracked in 3D space. You can move it horizontally like a mouse, you can fling it around like a sword or a baseball bat…there are many genres which have been stagnant for years because analogue sticks and buttons simply don’t give enough control.

In first person shooters, you can hold the analogue stick in the left hand like a WASD pad, and use the controller as a mouse. Better than trying to use a stick to look around, no? In sport games, hold the controller like a bat, fishing rod or sword. No controller has come close to being able to simulate that kind of physical control.

The on/off button may be just to turn the controller on and off, considering it is wireless. In any case if you don’t like the controller, or if the controller is unsuitable for a certain game, just use a gamecube controller like the Wavebird or buy the traditional style controller that will be available.

For years, Nintendo has been relying on their own games, not 3rd party games, to make money. I think the issue of 3rd party developers shying away from this controller is not an issue at all.

Besides, you have to give Nintendo credit for trying to move the industry forward. They have big cojonès indeed!
