Top End. £150 - £250 or US$160 - $300

The Nvidia top end centers around one series: the 79xx cards. The bottom end of these top ends cards (did you follow that?) is the 7900GS. This card is a new release, made to bridge the gap between the 7600GT and the 7900GT. To be honest, if you can afford either of the two before or after the 7900GS get it. The 7900GS is a card for a specific budget. If you can afford it, get the 7900GT.

The clock speed of the 7900GT is 450Mhz, and the memory is rated at 1300Mhz. The memory of the 7900GT uses a 256-bit interface, whereas the 7600 series uses a 128-bit memory bus. This extra memory boost makes a difference in the latest games at high resolutions.

The 7900GTX is a beast of a card. It's basically a super pumped up version of the 7900GT.

The speed of both the core and memory speeds are upped to 650Mhz, and 1600Mhz. These are a little overpriced for the extra performance boost. Not really recommended. And if you’ve got a load of cash burning a hole in your pocket, then I’ve saved the best till last for you.

Top end 3d mark 06 scores
7900GT scores 2226 points – respectable, certainly.
7900GTX scores 3006 – worth the extra cost? Your choice.

*WARNING: the price of the next card (the top end, of the top end) is a bit harsh on the eyes. Users with a nervous disposition should look away now!
