ATI Graphics Card Round Up
Home : Hardware : Articles : ATI Graphics Card Round Up

A complete review of all the latest ATI cards, from budget to the supreme high-end, with Nvidia scores and pricing as a comparison.

Following on from the Nvidia round up comes this, the complete ATI graphics card round up. Once again, I’ll be starting at the bottom of the pile and working my way up. To show the comparison between the cards in each section, I’ll show the 3D Mark 06 scores (1024x768, 32bit, No AA, Tri-linear filtering). Same as before basically, but this time it’s the red corner supplying the cards.

The Budget end. £30 - £60 or US$60 - $110

The X1300 is ATI’s budget graphics card and compared to Nvidia’s budget card, it’s rather respectable. It scores the same on 3D Mark 06 as the old Nvidia mid range card, the 6600. So, if this card was released a few years ago everyone would be buying them up. Sadly the 7600GS, though technically not a budget card, is the only card to go for in the budget end. If you are really on a super-tight budget then you can’t go wrong with this card.

ATI X1300

Budget End 3D Mark 06 Scores:

Nvidia 6200 scores 22 points – truly pathetic!
Nvidia 7300GS scores 379 points – better than the 6200.
ATI X1300 scores 624 – same as the 6600 but cheaper.

The X1300 wins the budget end and deservedly so. The 7300GS looks pathetic compared to the X1300 and it doesn’t even cost that much more either.
