Nyko Shows Off "Kama" Wireless Nunchuck, Early Sales for Limited Edition

If you're one of those people who has a 360 and Wii, you probably have too much white equipment in your room. Unless you've got PS3 as well, a black TV, TV stand and couch like me, all that white can be pretty bland and bright. So why not color it up a bit?

That's exactly what Nyko is doing with their highly-acclaimed from CES Wireless Nunchuck, which is now officially the Kama Wireless Nunchuck. Nyko has set up early sales of the Nunchuck in four colors: grey, black, pink and gold. They are in limited quantities (300, 300, 250 and 150 respectively), so if you want one, you'd better head over there fast.

Oh wait, one more thing. They're all going on sale at different times, if you saw from the picture. They'll all ship at the same time, May 1st, but then again there's nothing spectacular coming out that requires the use of the nunchu(c)k anyways, at least for the time being.

PS3 With Smaller Cell to be Profitable, When It Comes Out

Posted by James Pikover  16 days, 21 hours, 24 minutes ago.

News Image

The PS3 is still expensive for most people. It's not too bad right now, but there are undoubtedly a list of reasons why not to pick one up over the rival Xbox 360 (at least in the US). But with it's booming growth overseas and the 360's stale near-complete uselessness in the Japanese sector, the PS3 is set for a comeback.

To further that point, Nikko Citigroup, Citigroup's Japanese section if you will, points out that their analysts find the PS3 to break even and become profitable sooner than expected, based mainly on the smaller Cell processor, which is cheaper to manufacture and has more chips per board (for those who don't know, CPU's are made on large boards then cut out, meaning if the CPU is smaller, the board will have more CPU's available to cut out).

It really shouldn't be surprising, considering how the PS3 is growing tremendously in Europe and has exceptional functionality being built for it there, but the smaller Cell processors will of course be incredibly helpful to Sony because of the lower production costs. If current analysts are correct, the PS3 may catch up to the 360 in sales sometime this holiday season.

AMD In Grips, Removing Non-Essential Business Ventures

Posted by James Pikover  20 days, 21 hours, less than 1 minute ago.

News Image

All that time with little opposition against Intel has finally taken its toll on AMD, who today posted low numbers and will be cutting back drastically. While we're not sure what those non-essential businesses are, it can't be anything good for the CPU maker.

It's losses don't only come from their CPU business, but also from ATI, who has fallen far from their form due to NVIDIA's aggressive push. Even with their better Vista drivers, ATI just hasn't been able to supply good enough hardware to really compete with NVIDIA head to head.

AMD taking a beating from both Intel and NVIDIA, who we've seen lately battling back and forth the last two weeks, is stuck in the middle and not gaining anything out of it. Though this isn't the first time it's happened, and we're hoping to see some serious innovation from them.

PSP Battery That Can Kill

Posted by James Pikover  21 days, 11 hours, 26 minutes ago.

News Image

One thing that portable console owners know about the DS vs PSP is that the battery life on the PSP pales in comparison to the DS'. It's roughly double the time, though obviously the DS doesn't have the option for additional batteries in case your battery dies, but with around 15 hours of battery life while doing anything, that's not really a huge concern for the most of us.

PSP owners know that charging and have additional batteries is damned important, especially if there's a long 10-hour flight ahead or that the next recharge available will be in 3 days. Thus is the way of life on the road, even in today's times.

The guys over at Maxconsole found a huge battery made for the PSP. Not big, not oversize, not even lol hueg. Epically massive. Now, I've seen my share of PSP batteries, and you may see some things on that in the near future, but damn this battery is a monster. It's so big that laughing is nearly impossible because the idea of having such a large battery is just preposterous. You have to see it for yourself to truly judge it.

No New DS, Because Apparently Everyone Can Take Back What They Said

Posted by James Pikover  21 days, 11 hours, 43 minutes ago.

News Image

In a bold and unlikely turn of events, Hirakazu Hamamura, who last week commented that he believes that Nintendo would reveal their new DS model at E3 this year, basically retracted his statement, claiming that wasn't what he meant and denies having said anything of the sort.

It's not like he broke the law or anything...he just gave a prediction on what he thought would happen. I guess it might have insulted some big wigs at Nintendo, especially if they decided to state that they had no intention of releasing a new DS version.

Cygnett and Unison to Hit US Soon, Get Ready for More iPod Hardware

Posted by James Pikover  22 days, 11 hours, 41 minutes ago.

It's the way of life. A company that's not in a huge, densly populated area of wealthy or ample buyers will want to move to somewhere that does. Australia, with it's population of just 21 million, pales in comparison to the US's 300. The math is pretty damn simple.

It may not seem terribly impressive that we're getting yet another hardware manufacturer for iPod accessories, though these two are Australian. Australians are awesome (generally speaking...there's probably a black sheep or two). That means this is newsworthy.

Oh, and they're also two Australian companies that managed to get so big overseas that they could travel past that big lake over here, so they may be on to something. We'll have to let you know just how good they really are in the near future. Expect to see their products somewhere in the vacinity of soon.

Intel Shows Record Earnings, Getting Ready to Beat NVIDIA With A Stick

Posted by James Pikover  23 days, 10 hours, 47 minutes ago.

News Image

As if the news between Intel and NVIDIA this last week hasn't been enough, today Intel decided to lay a bombshell for those who care: record earnings, due in part to "Record Server Microprocessor Revenue"  (lots of CPU sales, mainly for desktop servers), high gross margins and a 23% increase in operating income.

Considering that they've basically beaten the crap out of AMD this last year quarter, it's no surprise they're doing so well. But it looks like Intel isn't done with their quest to be in every PC, laptop and server, both for business, gamers and poor countries around the world, cellphones and basically everywhere. They're after videocards too, though as we've shown on a few occasions, NVIDIA still kicks it's ass.

If Intel keeps getting record earnings, NVIDIA won't have that lead for long.

No New DS Model, Says Nintendo; Stop Listening To Rumors

Posted by James Pikover  23 days, 11 hours, 46 minutes ago.

News Image

Not too long ago, we brought you news that Bloomberg Japan thought a new DS model was in the works. Why? Because Famitsu said they expected it, and they're the bloody authority on what goes on in the games industry in Japan.

Who knew that Nintendo had any say in what they do? Apparently not us, since we figured that a new model wouldn't be so odd, though it did seem somewhat premature. Alas, Nintendo spoke with IGN to clear the whole thing up so there wouldn't be too many disappointed fans come E3 this year, which, may I remind you, is only exactly two months away.

NVIDIA Almost Done With GPU Physics Engine

Posted by James Pikover  24 days, 11 hours, 46 minutes ago.

News Image

Earlier today, in a similarly fashioned showing of computing prowess to Intel's Nehalim chip, NVIDIA showed off it's nearly complete physics processing on several different cards. After their purchase of AGEIA, it was expected.

To keep up with the last week's news with loud remarks about which system was better, NVIDIA and Intel were basically showing off potential and actual. Last week, Intel demonstrated how the Nehalim could process physics. Today, NVIDIA demonstrated how it could create physics.

In the tests, the NVIDIA cards destroyed the charts Nehalim originally wrote up. "While Intel's Nehalem demo had 50,000-60,000 particles and ran at 15-20 fps (without a GPU), the particle demo on a GeForce 9800 card resulted in 300 fps."

That's not all, TG Daily points out. "There was also a demonstration of cloth: A quad-core Intel Core 2 Extreme processor was working in 12 fps, while a GeForce 8800 GTS board resulted came in at 200 fps."

It's obvious that Intel has quite the ways to go, but we don't doubt for a second that they'll catch up to NVIDIA soon. What ATI is doing is the real question.

Metal Gear Headset, As Awesome, Expensive As Game

Posted by James Pikover  24 days, 16 hours, 20 minutes ago.

News Image

We didn't want to post on it earlier, when it was just a rumor, but it seems to have been confirmed by Kotaku: the Metal Gear Solid 4 headset lives. Not only does it look awesome and somewhat like the game, it actually works too.

Of course, that means it also carries the heavy burden of typical Bluetooth prices, and you can get this one for as much as the regular version of MGS4: for $60. We don't know if it's actually worth it, with notable headsets being priced upwards of $120, but hey, you never know. At least you'll look cool wearing it, right?
