
The update reportedly addresses several bugs and security issues, including an issue that could allow hackers to take control of the cell phone to spread spam or steal data if the user of the phone visited a certain web site.
So far there are no reports of criminals actually taking advantage of the vulnerability.
In other iPhone news, the battery used in the device has become the topic of considerable discussion. One attorney in Chicago has filed a lawsuit claiming that Apple failed to properly disclose the replacement costs and limited life of the iPhone battery.
The New York Consumer Protection Board has sent a letter to Apple requesting that they reduce the costs associated with replacing the battery, and redesign the iPhone to allow users to replace the battery themselves, instead of requiring the phone to be sent into an Apple service center, and paying extra for a loan unit during the repair process.
