Microsoft announces their continued support, but end of manufacturing of the Xbox 360 add-on
Hot off the presses, Microsoft just announced (late on Saturday night) that the HD-DVD add-on player for the Xbox 360 will no longer be manufactured, but that they will continue to support the warranty's any problems.
They state in the press release that Microsoft doesn't believe it will have any impact on the 360, which makes sense since it did little except for play movies and act as an extra USB port. And since Gamestop is no long accepting the drives for cash and nobody wants to buy them, the brick is basically useless.
On the bright side, if you bought one recently, it could "accidentally" break before the warranty ends and hopefully they'll have to give you a refund since they've sold the rest for scrap metal.
