Alienware Upgrades, Uses 780i and 9800 GX2

Alienware, custom PC maker introduces new line using 780i mobo and 9800 GX2 GPU

Just a day after the first reports of the 9800 GX2 come out, Alienware is using it. They've had it for a bit, of course, testing it, getting it to work on their specifications. That's how they roll.

So unsurprisingly they're using it right away, knowing the full potential the card has, and that some fans of NVIDIA who are looking to buy or upgrade to an Alienware machine might be swayed to buy one with the 3870 X2 with 2 GPU's on the same board. This makes things a bit more fair, though we know the 9800 outperforms it easily.

They're also using the new 780i Ultra SLI-based, which "support[s] DDR3 memory up to 2GHz for record-breaking memory speeds. Compatible with 1600MHz FSB Intel® CPUs, it also provides the Area-51 with the impressive next-generation Intel 45 nanometer CPU capabilities. Best of all, the nForce 790i Ultra SLI allows for NVIDIA 2-way, 3-way and Quad SLI technology for unmatched visual computing."

Currently the machines only allow for one GPU, but we don't expect that to last to long, though if you're in the market, stick with one. SLI is a copout.
