NVIDIA To Simplify Naming System, Finally

NVIDIA is working to simplify the current videocard naming system
If you're like me and remember the names of videocards from 10+ years back, things can get somewhat confusing. Three or so years ago, we had the ATI 9000 series going strong. Now we're already up to the NVIDIA 9000 series, which hasn't yet caught up to the 8000 series, but is getting there.
Now imagine you aren't like me, and you don't know the difference between an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro and an NVIDIA 9600GT. Which do you buy? Considering the pricetag difference, probably the ATI card, because hey, the numbers are exactly the same, right?
Should you ever walk into a store and see these two cards sitting side by side, ever, and I mean ever, then yes, this situation is understandible. But there is obviously a problem with the naming system...it isn't simple enough. Then again, what can they do? It seems like just naming cards by the actual name and series number is a good start, and having the amount of memory onboard would certainly do the trick. It's worked out pretty well so far for other companies. So who's it for exactly?
The simple, non-understanding consumer, of course. Because when you think about people who haven't the slightest clue of what to do with computer upgrades, they immediately think of upgrading their videocard. Well, at least that's what NVIDIA is trying to change, which we can now see from their incessant fighting with Intel.
Part of some master plan? It might just be, because this conspiracy is getting bigger and bigger and bigger...
