PS3 To Use 65nm Cell, RSX

The PS3 is scheduled to employ 65nm Cell processors immediately, 65nm RSX videocards in the fall
At a PlayStation briefing (yes, that is what they call it...must have done it for the lulz), Kaz Hirai confirmed that the PS3 is going 65nm. Not the whole thing, which still looks like it could fit several large cardboard boxes and children, but the Cell processor and RSX videocard.
As always, reducing the size of processors makes them faster and cooler, but so far the PS3's Cell has been unrivaled and has remained cool even under horrid conditions. What's a bit more exciting is that the RSX would perform better, but (a new favorite word) considering that there's already at least 10 million PS3's worldwide in use, and that the change in power won't increase significantly, it isn't that big a deal.
What is a big deal is that if everything gets smaller and kept cooler, that means that the fans inside won't need to be as big, and the console as a whole can be made a tad smaller. Expect a smaller version of the PS3 by holiday 2009.
