How much is too much? Supersize those french fries, get a jumbo popcorn...as Americans, we hear this all the time. BUT! what about making media storage larger? So far, the public has been having a blast with flash drives, and even though SSD's are still expensive as hell, everyone has some appreciation for their future. Disks and discs just hold more...for now.
And maybe for longer. Pioneer announced yesterday that they made a 16-layer Blu-Ray disc. How much does that hold? 400 big ones. At 8x the size of a standard Blu-Ray, putting Metal Gear Solid 4 on one 50GB and complaining there wasn't enough space seems...unambiguously humorful. Yes, humorful is a word...now...
Point being, DVD's are already being stretched thin as we've heard from many developers, but Blu-ray's 50GB standard drive space has been very pleasant to use. (Slow read speed on the PS3, however, hasn't). And with the format war over for quite some time now, it won't be long before Blu-ray drives become more standardized and we see a huge influx of high quality audio in our games and media. Because who the hell needs compressed files?
