ATI Set For Comeback, to Bitchslap Nvidia with 4870 X2

ATI's upcoming release of the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 to unseat Nvidia as king

You know it's big news when the Wall Street Journal talks about videogames. Not that they don't, but for a newspaper that talks about business first, news second, when they put any mention, it's a big deal.

Considering that, they're pretty sure that AMD, owners of ATI, are going to do very well with their current business plan, "designing chips that aren't quite as fast but consume less energy and cost less to make." Indeed, it's genius, but so far hasn't fared well against adversary Nvidia, who's basically dominated the videocard market the last two years.

Their new designs, however, are now officially doing more against Nvidia cards then ever before. Top of the line Nvidia cards may run for $400-600, but they mostly rely on one core, or if they use two cores, they haven't been very efficient. Nvidia has instead pushed for using dual/triple videocard solutions, using technology called SLi, to run programs and games faster. ATI has a streak for efficiency and better drivers, something that Nvidia has lacked since before they took over the market.

Then again, it isn't only WSJ who thinks that AMD's set for a big comeback with the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2. They quote a few companies who are very happy with the card, including gaming PC company Falcon Northwest and a number of online review outlets. We're excited too.
