ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT Review Roundup

ATI's new R600-based video card is as fast as an Nvidia 8800GTS, but can't beat the 8800GTX.

ATI launched their newest, and highly anticipated R600-based video cards this week. The 2900 XT is, according to initial reviews, on par with the Nvidia 8800GTS. The problem for ATI is that not only is the 8800GTS cheaper, but the Nvidia camp also has the 8800GTX, a much faster card which (although costing considerably more) leaves ATI's newest card for dead.

ATI are promising better performance through driver updates in the near future, but until those come and we see prices drop, the Nvidia 8800GTS is still the better buy for those in the market for a new video card.

Of course, those with money burning a hole in their pocket should jump straight onto the 8800GTX bandwagon, and never look back. At least not until the next great video card is released, which will undoubtedly be fairly soon.
