And what about free stuff? MadCatz has you covered. Just for buying the controller at its suggested retail price of USD $59.99, you’ll get unlock codes for the full-versions of the 3 XBLA titles: Frogger, TimePilot, and AstroPop. Additionally, there’s a redeem code for a free 48-hour Xbox Live Gold membership. The games alone cost USD $20.00 when converted from their Microsoft point values, so if you subtract that from the cost, you’re really only paying USD $39.99 for the controller and getting a two-day Xbox Live Gold membership for free! Not to mention 600 achievement points (200 per game) to go towards your gamerscore!

The controller not only matches the console well, but also works great too, especially for a game like TimePilot where you are constantly moving in different directions. The d-pad feels a little stiff compared to regular controllers, but the likelihood of you plugging in a corded joystick to play a game with the d-pad anyway is pretty slim. You’ll most likely be using it for its joystick capability. The button on top of the joystick doubles as the A button, and does come in handy in some situations. Another thing that is a nice built-in feature is that since the controller uses a USB connection, it is plug-and-play on your Windows PC as well. Just plug it in, click a few “Next” buttons on the install wizard the first time, and you’re good to go.
Overall this is a solid product. It functions like it should, and even has a few extras (like turbo and the top joystick button). The fact that it comes with the full version of three XBLA games is nice, especially considering its price tag stands at USD $59.99. You’ll also get 2 full days worth of an Xbox Live Gold membership for free right out of the box. Xbox 360 finally has a joystick to go with all of its arcade classics!
It works not only on your Xbox 360, but also your Windows PC.
Highs
Controller looks and works great; has all the functionality and buttons of a normal controller; turbo button is a nice touch.
Lows
It’s corded; price tag may be a bit high if you’ve already bought the games it comes with.
Final verdict
The MadCatz Arcade Gamestick is a solid peripheral whose high price is offset by its freebies.
