For all of you traditionalists who don’t trust a piece of software to get things right and like to do all of the tweaking yourself, don’t worry: the XFX 680i LT has an AwardBIOS with usual stock of bus tweakings for you to play around with in search of the perfect balance. Memory timings are in a submenu of the clearly-labeled front side bus speed menu, which is convenient if you’re trying to switch back and forth between two different configurations and don’t want to hunt through the entirety of the BIOS software to make a quick change. Everything is pretty bare bones, though; unlike the multitude of boosting presets included in the ASUS board I reviewed a few months ago , the XFX 680i LT is footloose and preset free, a symptom of NVIDIA’s chipset modifications in the LT series. If you’re serious about tweaking, go for the full version of the 680i chipset instead.
Conclusions
If you’re looking for a new board for your gaming system, the XFX nForce 680i LT should fit the bill just fine, as LT (when pronounced as “lite”) doesn’t have the quality stigma usually associated with reduced products. The board was easy to set up, is stable under stressful conditions and even does a bit of easy overclocking. Furthermore, with the reduced overclocking options affecting only the enthusiast crowd, less really is more, saving you some money in the process. What else could you ask for?
