Razer eXactMat

Performance

Overall, I was very impressed with the eXactMat's performance. The solid aluminum core is rigid, preventing any bending of the mouse surface and thin rubber feet on the four corners of the pad prevent any slippage while in use. The unit's oversize footprint allowed for greater range of movement with the mouse, however those whose desk space is at a premium may find the larger size too intrusive.

One of the cooler features of Razer's product is its dual surfaces. On one side of the unit is a smooth "speed" surface, targeted at quick FPS style gaming. On the other is a more textured "control" surface targeted at a slower more controlled RTS player. Both surfaces provided comfortable mouse movement, but there is definitely a distinct feel to each. Personally, I found that the "speed" surface was more comfortable for most uses, from gaming to surfing the web.

Also included with the eXactMat is a removable, gel-filled wrist rest. This rest consists of a mat that sits under the mousepad with a thick gel filled pad at the bottom that is contoured to the curve of the mousing surface. Ultimately, I found that the wrist rest interfered a little too much with my arm movement, and tended to use the eXactMat without it, but for those of you who do not require a huge amount of wrist action during your gaming sessions, the soft pad can provide a comfortable source of support.

It looks equally good from an angle.

Conclusion

Ultimately, whether you will want the Razer eXactMat will depend on how seriously you take your gaming. At $30.00 (US) this is hardly a cheap item. Still, if you have a little extra cash to spend, and are looking for a really high quality, sturdy, and attractive oversize mousing surface, the eXactMat is sure to please.

Highs
Very high quality construction; dual surfaces.

Lows
A bit pricey for a mousepad; larger footprint may be awkward for those with limited desk space.

Final verdict
A great mousepad, provided that you have the space and money.
