Logitech G9 Gaming Mouse

The mouse is in the house.

Now that every major player (and I do mean EVERY major player) in the peripheral manufacturing market has started offering gaming-specific units, it is very easy for any one device to get lost among its competitors. How then does a manufacturer create a device that the consumer will notice, and more importantly buy? Recently, the answer for most companies is customization. Logitech has taken the concept of customization to an extreme, and by doing so had created one of the most unique mice to date; The G9.

Looks mean, doesn't it?

Appearance:

If Batman (the Christian Bale one, not the Adam West one) were to create a computer mouse to attach to his utility belt, the Logitech G9 would be the result. Matte black and angular, the G9 walks the fine line between looking slick and modern and looking threatening (or at least as threatening as a little computer mouse can look). One thing is certain, it is undeniably cool. The first aesthetic feature that stuck me was the unconventional shape of the G9.

Check those internals.

Unlike most modern mice, Logitech eschews a smooth, rounded profile, instead favoring strong angles and a decidedly non-bulbous shape. The entire base unit is black, with a red Logitech logo standing in stark contrast on the palm rest. Sitting left and center of the main body is a bank of LEDs that indicate the resolution setting. These LEDs are adjustable to any color that you can imagine, which is a really cool customization option. The only real color to the G9's black exterior are the silver scroll wheel, the red Logitech logo at the bottom, and the resolution indicator LEDs just below the left click button. It’s slick and it's fierce looking. If you are one who appreciates subtle style (as opposed to those fluorescent, tiger-striped gaming peripherals) you won't find a much better looking mouse than the G9.
