A 5.1 system specifically for gamers, and customizable (kinda) to boot.

In recent years, there has been an upsurge (to put it mildly) in the gaming peripheral market. Everything from mice to keyboards, to headphones, to microphones is getting the “gaming” treatment. Logitech, one of the more proactive gaming manufacturers, has taken the scene one step further by offering a gaming-specific surround sound speaker system, the G51.

Appearance:

Considering the direction that some manufacturers are going with their gaming lines, with outlandish paint schemes and wild form factors, I find it refreshing that Logitech tends to keep it pretty low key with their product lines. The G51 system is no exception. The entire system sports a classic black finish with some silver and champagne detailing on the sides of the speakers and on the control pod. There is actually very little to differentiate the G51 from any other system… except for one feature.

A clear plastic cover that wraps around the top of the 4 main speakers can be removed, allowing the user to insert their own custom artwork. This adds a level of customizability to a type of peripheral that, until now, really did not offer much in the way of aesthetic options. Whether you choose to take advantage of this option will depend on your taste, but it is nice to have this option.
