3DMark06
3DMark continues to be an excellent way to benchmark a system’s performance so you can compare it to other systems and build the best possible combination of parts. I ran all of 3DMark’s tests with the default settings. The results were:
- 3DMark Score: 8,619
- SM2.0 Score: 3,985
- HDR/SM3.0 Score: 4,383
- CPU Score: 1,726
Looking through Futuremark’s Online ResultsBrowser, I found that the Fatal1ty garnered the same or higher 3DMark scores over similar configurations. In other words, the Fatal1ty is as least as good, if not better than other 8800 GTS graphics cards available on the market.

PerformanceTest 6.1
After proving itself as a useful benchmark over the past few months, PerformanceTest has become a part of my test suite. Unlike 3DMark, PerformanceTest mixes real-world frame per second (FPS) values with an overall score, giving you another scientifically comparable way to examine your computer’s abilities. I ran all of PerformanceTest’s 3D Graphics tests and came back with these results:
- Graphics 3D – Simple: 1619.1 FPS
- Graphics 3D – Medium: 395.7 FPS
- Graphics 3D – Complex: 38.7 FPS
- 3D Graphics Mark: 657.2
For PerformanceTest, complex graphics means a canyon and sky backdrop with six fighter planes doing Blue Angel-style flight exercises in the middle; a good example of a DirectX 9 performance test. While the Fatal1ty scored very well – more than fast enough to keep the action moving on the screen – what’s interesting about these scores is that PerformanceTest returned a Complex score comparable with the XFX Ultra ExTreme.
F.E.A.R. Performance Test
The built-in performance test for F.E.A.R. happens to be a great test of a graphic card’s abilities that anyone can repeat, making it an excellent scientific benchmark. I set the resolution to 1280 x 960 x 32 and pushed all of the Performance settings to their maximum before running the test. Here’s what it came back with:
FPS
- Minimum: 24
- Average: 31
- Maximum: 37
FPS Distribution
- 3% below 25 FPS
- 97% between 25 and 40 FPS
- 0% above 40 FPS
Again, a very good showing from the Fatal1ty as it powered through this demanding test without many problems. With only three percent of the frames falling below 25 fps, neither dropouts nor slow downs were a problem for the card.
