A hardcore gamer needs a hardcore mouse pad. Does Razer’s new Mantis Speed gaming surface fit the bill?
The Razer Mantis Speed gaming surface arrives rolled up in a clear plastic tube. After popping the top off, I slide the mouse pad out of its container. Only after it flops onto the floor in front of me and unrolls, do I realize just what Razer means by “oversized”. This mouse pad is HUGE! It measures out at 17 ¼” by 14” with a thickness of about 1/8”. This gaming surface has a tight gripping rubber base and a Fibertek cloth woven surface. The aesthetic cheery-on-top is a matrix green design featuring the Razer triple snake logo design.
So, the big question is, “How does all of this translate into a gaming experience?” Well, for the most part it makes a pleasing addition to the equation. The surface of the Razer Mantis Speed is very smooth and the mouse glides over it effortlessly. At first this only seemed to be a slight benefit while playing, but after about 4 hours of FPS action, I returned to using my old mouse pad (a standard grade “cheap” pad). Suddenly the benefits of the Razer Mantis Speed are much more obvious. Using my old mouse pad after an FPS marathon on the Razer Mantis Speed is like dragging my mouse through sand.
