Razer Mantis Speed

The pad of the Razer Mantis Speed is made of a pourous rubber that is firm but offers just enough give to comfortably rest the heel of your palm on. The room offered by the Razer Mantis Speed is also a big plus. There is nothing worse than running off the edge of your mouse pad in the heat of battle. I never had this happen while using the Razer Mantis Speed.

Choose the Speed or Control product, depending on your preference.

Although the size of the pad is great, it is also the only real downfall of the Razer Mantis Speed. Because it is so large, common sense dictates you have to have room for it. I unfortunately did not. The mouse pad is too big to put on the roll-out keyboard/mouse tray that my desk has built into it. That only left the desktop, which is already quiet congested. To test out the Razer Mantis Speed for this review I actually had to unhook and remove my scanner to make room for the mouse pad. Of course if you are thinking about purchasing this product, room is an easy problem to deal with. Either you have or you don’t, case closed.

What the Razer Mantis Speed really boils down to is what kind of gamer you are. Do you constantly tweak your controls to find the optimal space vs. mouse sensitivity ratio? Do you rearrange your computer area over and over again looking for the perfect ergonomic position so your body can endure hours and hours of constant play? Most importantly, do you thrive on competitive FPS gameplay, and value any product that will give you an edge? If so, then this gaming surface is for you.

We still prefer the smaller, aluminium Razer eXactMat here at the GWN offices!

Highs
Smooth surface, comfortable firmness, and lots of room to move around.

Lows
Too big, will not fit on most crowded desktops. Advantages limited to FPS games.

Final verdict
The Razer Mantis Speed is great for competitive FPS play. If that is your “bag”, go out and buy it. If you happen to be a more casual/non-competitive gamer, or tend to enjoy mainly game genres other than FPS, then I probably wouldn’t recommend spending
