Conclusion

Between these two headsets, it’s difficult to say that the Piranha is superior. For a non-USB set, it has the best quality I’ve heard, matching the DSP 500 nearly every time. But its poor volume control really brings it down. Of course, for anyone who were to decide between these two, the Piranha wins. Keeping a spare USB port open and having the nice tidy wiring (most of it) is excellent for travel, and its microphone does a better job of capturing your voice.

For a headset using 3.5mm jacks instead of USB, the Piranha is quite a catch, especially for its price.

It’s a great headset, but there is room for improvement with the control switch, possibly making the USB-plug not just for lighting it up, and for fixing the wiring so it’s all easy to manage. And with its standard 3.5mm jack, it’s excellent for travel, working with any music or PMP devices you may have.

Highs
Excellent sound quality, durable, comfortable.

Lows
Poor control switch, odd USB attachment, poor end cabling.

Final verdict
A great 3.5mm headset for anyone, gamers and travelers especially.
