Taste

It’s impossible to displace first party controllers, no matter how you put it. They simply have the edge because they typically have more money to invest, spend countless hours testing them and because the market is flooded with them by the time third parties can get their products into consumer’s hands. Many people love the Dualshock layout, but there is a growing number of people who are interested in the 360's style. The Zero is much larger and targeted perhaps towards and audience with bigger hands or who likes larger controllers, as well as those who find the 360 controller more favorable.

Soft backlit buttons are great, and there are even special commands to see battery power, player number and turning on and off the backlight.

Overall, the Zero is a great piece of hardware for its $60. It's even better for $45, the price that both Amazon and buy.com have at the time of this writing. It comes in three different faceplate color schemes; white, grey and black. It isn't pretty, and some would say it looks like it could be used as a weapon, but it’s a darned good piece of hardware and has taken over my PS3. Fans of the Dualshock may not be too fond of the Zero, but we expect there is a large base of gamers who would appreciate the feel of Nyko’s controller over Sony’s. And with everything that comes in the package, we’d be hard pressed to see anyone not pick one up.

Highs
Best PS3 controller with rumble, backlit buttons, excellent feedback, great value

Lows
Poor shoulder (R1 & L1) buttons, no bluetooth, oversensitive accelerometers

Final verdict
A great controller that has just a few loose screws, but can go around the racetrack nevertheless.
