Cyborg 5.1

Conclusion

After our testing, it's safe to say that the sound quality from the Cyborg 5.1 is superb. It was better than the Razer Piranha, though we imagine the two would be closer in standards had the Piranha been a surround headset and used the USB jack it had. It completely foreshadowed the need for the 3.5mm jacks, but we do know that when on the go or if gaming on a laptop with few USB ports, it's better than nothing.

The headset in its entirety. It really does glow better at night.

However, there was quite a bit disappointing about the 5.1's. The thin top band becomes uncomfortable quickly, the microphone doesn't connect well tot he headset, there's no clip for the cable, the cable is shorter than we'd like and the separate volume controls for the stereo and surround settings are...unpleasing.

There is a lot of potential in this particular headset, and we're happy with it for the most part, but there are lots of annoyances that take away from the experience that Saitek has been aiming for. There's no denying that it's a good headset; it simply has too many petty flaws. While we expected better from Saitek, we know that the next version will fix these shortcomings easily.

Highs
Great sound quality, comfortable on the ears, additional case is a winner.

Lows
Difficult to use microphone, uncomfortable head rest, no clip, dual volume controls.

Final verdict
A very solid headset with too many small faults.
