Final Thoughts

It isn’t often a machine is spectacular in more ways than one. A more normal occurrence is to see a very fast computer unstable, a super high-end one overly expensive, or a good machine with useless accessories. For Gateway’s true first entrance into the high-end world of gaming PC’s, the FX541XT is an excellent start, one we hope to see plenty more of in the future.

What’s incredible about it isn’t just that it’s built well or that the benchmarks we ran were high. It’s that knowledgable consumers will be happy to buy this machine, that all the parts have been carefully chosen and have both longevity and economic stability. If I had to buy or build a gaming/media rig with $3,400, it’s a simple choice. The FX541XT all the way.

Highs
Excellent media center, small form-factor, powerful gaming PC, very stable; proper use of soundcard and ports; inexpensive.

Lows
Messy on the inside, not highly upgradeable, difficult to open; some crapware; Raid-0 is unnecessary and unsafe for a media center.

Final verdict
As an outstanding media center that can and should make its way into anyone's living room, the Editor's Choice is well deserved.
