NZXT Avatar Gaming Mouse

The Avatar is a petite maiden.

Unfortunately, the Avatar is not without its share of shortcomings. The first and most noticeable is the form factor. This mouse is small, and it is narrow. In fact, it is so small that I find it fairly uncomfortable to use. Granted I have abnormally large hands, and someone with a smaller build would probably not have the same issues as I. Still, I find myself wanting a burlier piece of hardware to hold onto. The petite build of the Avatar leads me to the second issue I have with the mouse. Because of its small stature, and because of the size of my hands, I find my thumb and middle finger resting unusually close to either side button. Since these side buttons are particularly sensitive, on several occasions I have mistakenly activated said buttons simply by navigating the mouse across my mouse pad. Again, your comfort level with this mouse will depend on the size of your hands and the style of your play, but those of us who wear XL in gloves should be wary. The final issue that the Avatar suffers from is its lack of 64 bit OS support. Of course, this is an issue that can be addressed in future software updates, but for now, keep away if you are running a 64 bit OS.

It almost looks like a spaceship. PEW! PEW! PEW!

Conclusion:

Despite my personal discomfort with the form factor of the NZXT Avatar, I find myself hesitant to give it a bad score. Because of its top notch response time and great accuracy, as well as its solid construction and quality software suite, it would be unfair to dock it for a personal preference. Still, there is no denying that it is definitely on the smaller side when compared to other gaming mice. Therefore, if your hands tend towards the Yeti, rather than the Munchkin, you may want to consider other options. Otherwise, the Avatar is definitely worth your consideration.

Highs
Really responsive and accurate; Slick looks; On the fly resolution adjustment up to 2600 DPI; 7 programmable buttons; Solid software suite.

Lows
Small form factor is difficult to handle if you have larger hands; Side button placement makes accidental activation a concern; No 64 bit OS support.

Final verdict
The Avatar is a strong performer when it comes to gaming, but those with larger hands will likely find it too small for their liking.
