The Ear Force HPA Surround Sound Headphones provide all of this aural goodness by using multiple speakers in each ear cup. Just like the speakers on your home theater or external PC surround sound system, the Ear Force HPA Surround Sound Headphones feature a front, center and rear speaker.
For games that use VOIP, the Ear Force HPA Surround Sound Headphones also include a good quality, removable boom mic. The speakers inside the Ear Force HPA Surround Sound Headphones are powered by an inline six channel amplifier that allows you to control the volume for each channel, front, rear, center and sub as well as an overall volume control. A separate AC adapter powers the amplifier.
Turtle Beach put some thought into their Ear Force HPA Surround Sound Headphones, and it shows. They even included a “Y” adapter to allow you to connect your external surround sound system to your PC and your Ear Force headphones to the PC at the same time. The Ear Force HPA Surround Sound Headphones do require a 5.1 enabled sound card.
The only problem I found with the Ear Force HPA Surround Sound Headphones was the cushions on the ear cups were a bit too thin for me. After extended wear the Ear Force HPA Surround Sound Headphones became a bit uncomfortable for me because my ears actually touched the inside of the ear cups. If the ear cup cushions were a mere ¼” thicker, this would not have been an issue.
Overall, a slightly sore ear was a fair trade for a set of surround sound headphones that finally deliver on their promise, real surround sound. If you are currently in the market for a new set of headphones, or want to go surround sound without wires running all over your room, the Ear Force HPA Surround Sound Headphones are a gamers dream.
