Read our in-depth review of the very latest portable beast from Alienware!

Since the dawn of time (April, 1982) I have dreamed in laptops. Every hope and glassy eyed aspiration has been portable, and folded in the middle. This is not to say that I have not owned laptops in the past.

My first laptop has faded into obscurity and I could not find the specs for it anywhere. However I remember it being about 4 1/2 inches thick and weighed in at about twenty pounds. Radiocarbon Dating would most likely date its creation in the early to mid eighties, though I bought it in the early nineties at a church sale for twenty dollars. This depressing difference engine was so heavy and cumbersome that it immediately broke its built-in handle (plastic, should have been reinforced steel) and I was required to tote it around in a "laptop bag" that also doubled as luggage when I went on trips and left the laptop at home.

Since then I have owned two other laptops. Each one was five-plus years past its prime. Somehow any laptop was better than no laptop at all. I've had great desktops, gaming machines that did me proud, but like some philandering husband I'm always thinking of someone else. Someone I can fold and take into the living room.
