The new X-Arcade trackball mouse was built with gamers in mind and that reflected in the quality of their work on this new device. The entire peripheral is constructed from the same materials that are used in the original arcade cabinets. This means that the controller can take a lot of abuse which is good news as games like Golden Tee requires moves that aren't exactly friendly to regular devices, such as a trackball mouse. Also the layout of the X-Arcade trackball mouse is very easy for anyone to use.
On each side of the trackball itself there are a set of three buttons that translate to the left, right and center buttons on a regular mouse. The reason that there are two sets of these is so left and right hand gamers can easily adapt to the controller. Also there are buttons on each lower side of the device that act as left and right flippers in games like pinball. In addition to the standard buttons there is one “cheater” button on the back of the controller that restricts the movement to just up and down which makes tricky moves easier in most situations. Overall the look, feel, layout, and ease of use of the X-Arcade is perfect and I can't find a single thing that would confuse people or complicate things.
The real test of the X-Arcade is how it performs and feels in games. In this area the X-Arcade passes with flying colors. Nothing feels better than to play a game of Crystal Castles or Breakout with an actual arcade perfect trackball. The fluid movement and precise controls makes every moment in the game a complete joy. While it does take some tweaking and fine tuning to get the right feel for many of the games, such as pong, it is worth the hassle once you get it working perfectly and break all of your previous high score records.
