This is a ‘must have’ peripheral for almost all serious game players, and well worth the money.

The TrackIR 4 Pro. This handy little unit can completely change the way you feel about your flight sims and bring a level of realism never before experienced on a computer.

The first time I saw an ad for the TrackIR 4 by NaturalPoint I immediately thought, “Oh, I’ve got to try this!” The concept is simple. You wear a hat with an infrared reflecting dot or a 3 point steel harness on a baseball cap that allows your heads motions to be tracked and simulated in a video game. According to Kevin Fox, a NaturalPoint employee, the device got kicked off when Jim Richardson (NaturalPoint’s President) began researching the use of reticule tracking for his cousin, who suffered from locked in syndrome. Later, a member of the ALS found that the tracking worked great with flight simulators, and KER-POW! We end up with the result of a fantastic way to enhance our gaming.

I sent for one and after what seemed like an eternity (4 days) my eagerly awaited TrackIR 4 Pro showed up in my mailbox. I opened the package and examined the contents with excited hands. I carefully looked over each of the items included in the package. Along with the tracking unit came a standard one-size-fits-all hat, visor, reflective steel TrackClip, a T-Shirt and install software with instructions. The TrackClip, as I’m informed, is vital to tracking movements on 6 different axes.

NatualPoint’s TrackClip. This is the steel harness that reflects the infrared beams from the TrackIR back to itself. The three points of reflection let the TrackIR triangulate your position on 6 different axes.
