Nostromo n30 Gaming Mouse
Home : Hardware : Reviews : Nostromo n30 Gaming Mouse

The n30 was designed to be used with Belkin’s n50 Speedpad, which is a kind of hybrid keyboard & gamepad device. Frankly, this reviewer can not see how the n30 could possibly compliment any other device, be it a hybrid or a standard gamepad or keyboard. It may be that years of using an optical mouse have altered my perception of how a mouse should feel, but handling the n30, with its outdated track-ball technology, is like going from a ballpoint pen to a crayon.

Gee, my mouse looks more like a frog.

You do not dare lift it off your desk, for fear of the cursor or your perspective in the game flying out of control around the screen as the mouse ball dangles. The overtly large scroll wheel is nice, but frustration ensues once again when you try to click it, to no avail. That’s right kids, no clickable mouse wheel.

Is that a mouse ball? Oh my...

Look, I could go on and on, but for sake of brevity and your own valuable time, let us sum up. The Nostromo n30 is a terrible mouse. It was terrible when it came out 6 YEARS AGO (!!!) and it is especially terrible now. The amazing thing is this thing can still be found for sale at certain retailers. If you happen upon it, for god’s sake, do not buy it. Check out some of Logitech’s or Razer’s selections. You will find much more capable and satisfying alternatives there.

Highs
Highs, hmm...; successfully points to things most of the time; USB interface is convenient; the long cord can be useful, I guess; has a cool-sounding name.

Lows
Old; large; heavy; outdated.

Final verdict
Don’t buy this. Dear God man, don’t buy this. Spring for a cheap optical mouse, if you are on a budget. Just stay far away from the n30.
