Razer Tarantula

As far as key customization is concerned… you’re covered. Almost every single key on the board can be assigned as the key you want, which in itself can be set to a profile, which you can switch on the fly. All the standard media keys are also available, but with you in mind Razer made them tiny and pushed them off to the side. This is good because most keyboards have huge media buttons so grandma can see the button that turns the volume up when she listens to Sinatra. Gamers still want them, but don’t need them taking up space.

Let’s hit the specs on this bad boy:

Anti-ghosting capability: Most keyboards only allow three keystrokes at a time to be received by your computer. The Tarantula allows for unlimited simultaneous keystrokes.

32KB of on-board memory: This allows up to five profiles to be stored on the keyboard itself. Should you want to change computers with your keyboard, these profiles go with you.

As with all Razer products the connecters are gold plated allowing for more solid connections.

The Tarantula also provides headphone/microphone jacks in the back. This is extremely useful for those of us who don’t want to have to reach behind the computer to plug in a headset and microphone directly into the audio card. Next to the audio jacks is a pair of USB ports, which makes the Tarantula a handy USB hub for your mouse or additional gaming peripherals.

Media Headphone/USB jacks make for true convenience.

I was going to complain that the Tarantula didn’t light up entirely, as I tried to find something that they could improve. With my fist held high and cursing the heavens, I found out about the BATTLEDOCK. At the top of the keyboard is a port for additional accessories. No, not like a purse. The BATTLEDOCK allows the use of the BATTLELIGHT which is a small blue light that would illuminate your keyboard during late night sessions (or for you 24 hour cave dwellers). Additionally there is the BATTLEEYE, a webcam that attaches directly to the Tarantula. The idea of keyboard accessories such as these is extremely creative, but they come separately, so we’ll let you know how they play when they come out.
