The mouse also comes with Logitech’s control software, called SetPoint. SetPoint is a very powerful program that requires a bit of fiddling to master – a bit more fiddling than I would have expected especially to get a specially branded mouse to work with the game the makers branded it for. We’ll get to that in a second.

For now, here are the features of SetPoint:

  • Button Configuration: program all eight buttons to do a variety of functions and distinguish those settings by program (Battlefield 2142, for example).

  • Movement Adjustment: change the scrolling speed of the scroll button and the point speed; enable point acceleration and pointer trails and activate Smart Move, which automatically jumps the pointer to the active button every time you open a new window or dialog.

  • Game Settings: enable whether or not SetPoint should detect if a game is running, allow the mouse to use SetPoint or the OS’s acceleration settings when playing a game and set whether things like left hand/right orientation and button assignments should still work when a game is running. Game Settings also includes an advanced setting that allows you to reprogram the default sensitivity settings to any five settings between 400 DPI and 2,000 DPI (with a minimum of 50 DPI between each setting) and save those settings to a particular game if you so desire.

Basically, the SetPoint features are very, very powerful and with some tweaking you can get the mouse to do almost anything you want. SetPoint is also a universal program for all Logitech products, so if you have a Logitech keyboard (or another mouse, if you’re that hardcore) you can adjust all of your settings from one control panel.
