Razer Tarantula

Besides these core ideas that change how the board functions, Razer has added some sweet touches that improve the appearance of the unit from that drab old keyboard that your mom uses to type her taxes on, to one that adds some sparkle to the rest of your already flashy components attached to your high end gaming rig.

Programming a macro key has never been this easy!

The soft blue backlighting on the macro keys and logo display can be complimented further by purchasing the BattleLight. The BattleLight is an interchangeable light that goes in the BattleDock station with a simple snapping motion. This light gives off a beautiful (and matching) blue iridescent glow that helps during those long (and late) gaming sessions. The need to hang a lamp over your keyboard is no longer necessary.

This keyboard is sound all over. The keys depress smoothly and quietly. The software is easy to use and responsive. Quicklaunch keys for your music player as well as controls for play, stop, skip track and volume is a nice touch. Shortcut buttons for internet navigation add that extra ‘mmmph’ to surfing the web.

Key removal tool and shiny new keys to replace those clunky old standard keys.

In essence, this thing is sweet… really sweet. There are a few, if very minor, quirks. The macro keys aren’t very easy to reach no matter what key layout you prefer. With them flanking the sides of the keyboard, to the left of the TAB key and the right of the 10 key, they aren’t easy to reach with even the longest of pinky fingers.

The key removal tool doesn’t fit in all of the tight macro key areas very well and can make removing some keys ‘interesting’. The backlighting is only for the 10 macro keys, which means if you replace the standard QWERTY keys with one of the provided labled keys, the look isn’t quite as stunning as it is when it’s placed on the backlit key set. The one thing I had hoped for, but didn’t expect due to power issues, is the ability to go wireless. This issue was very insignificant, however.
