Aimed at gamers, OCZ’s GameXStream power supply is a definite winner.
Probably the most unglamorous part of any gaming rig, the power supply is definitely one of the most important – besides the no power, no working computer truism, a cheap power supply may kill your system faster than dangerous overclocking. I have a feeling that the importance of a power supply is the reason why NVIDIA created an SLI certification for PSUs; as with video cards, motherboards and memory, you’re guaranteed a working SLI rig if you buy an SLI-certified power supply.

The GameXStream and all those connectors.
OCZ Technology has a line of SLI-certified power supplies specifically aimed at gamers, called the GameXStreme. One of two SLI-certified lines of PSU offered by OCZ, the GameXStream is clearly the power supply aimed at gamers; besides the name, the GameXStream features power ratings from 600 to 850 watts, a maximum far beyond the capabilities of any other power supply OCZ offers. Theoretical numbers are great, but do those numbers equal real-world performance? We put the 600-watt version of the GameXStream to the test.

Installation
Besides the 600 watts of power, the GameXStream features support for the latest dual-core CPUs and includes overvoltage/overcurrent/short-circuit protection and active PFC, eliminating the need for a 110 and 220 volt switch. The GameXTream also boasts an internal 120mm fan and a blue LED aimed into the case, adding some blue glow for those of you with case windows. For connectors, the GameXStream has a 20+4-pin ATX power connector, two PCI-E connectors, six 4-pin peripheral (IDE hard drives, for example) connectors, two 4-pin floppy connectors and six SATA connectors.
